Alpkit Mora hammock
This is the alpkit mora hammock that you will sometime see me use on my adventures, it doesn’t come out often but when it does its normally really hot and i’m looking forward to a relaxing easy trip with lots of lazy lounging in this thing.
It really is tiny, and it only weighs a little over 500 grams, i initially bought this because I was working in kitchens and i was working in the new forest and was doing split shift so had 2/3hr break most days before going back to work but was living about an hour cycle back to home so thought what better way to enjoy some relaxing time, get a hammock and sway in the New Forest for a couple of hours each day. Perfect it was.
I do use this from time to time on bike packing trips though but only when it is really warm, if you watch the channel already then you know whether I’m in a bivy or a tent summer on winter i don’t use a sleeping pad and i’m fine warm and sleep great, however in the hammock even in the summer nights its can feel cold, and the correct way to go about that, is having an under blanket then have a sleeping bag or blanket over you, then depending on the weather probably a tarp above you, but adding all that stuff to the tiny little pack size of this hammock just makes the pack size bigger than my tent of bivy set up. So I only use this when I know its going to be hot so I can really enjoy the benefits of the tiny pack size and weight. Pair it up with a sleeping bag and a tarp and I’m good to go.
The alpkit mora is a solid bit of kit it’s light small and well-made, when I bought it I paid about £30 and that comes with the tree straps and carabiners and both of these are well-made the traps are durable and most importantly don’t damage the tree. I have not had any issues with using this hammock apart from the sad reality that it makes you realise just how little trees there are in the UK, especially once you can have access too.
